The standard length of the integrated master’s program is two years (4 semesters). International students may be required to study for 6 semesters depending on their knowledge of the Czech language. The degree is granted after the successful completion of state exams and a defense of one’s thesis.
A pre-graduation internship is required in the third semester for full-time students. Those interested in part-time studies in the integrated master’s program are required to have at least one year of work experience (which is not required to be in the field).
For each semester in the part-time program there are three five-day long sessions (Monday-Friday). In the last session of the fourth semester there is a final session with intensive instruction, materials for revision, and written tests. For individual subjects, students are given course descriptions that include syllabi, lists of recommended literature, guidelines for exercises and revision material, requirements for assignments and papers, and descriptions of exam topics.
Major field of study: Hospitality and Spa Management
This major field of study is a follow-up to the bachelor’s program; however, the broader and more pragmatic course content provides graduates with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to operate successfully in the hotel and spa industries. Students with bachelor’s degrees from other programs or from other schools can also be accepted into the program, but may have to take compensatory exams during their first year of study. Students are prepared for work in leading management positions in hotels and spas, as well as in establishments related to sport, accommodation, catering, and balneology. They may also find opportunities in the field of education, resort research, or public administration, including international institutions related to travel and tourism, hotels and spas.
Major field of study: Destination Management in the Travel and Tourism Industry
(opened in academic year 2010/2011)
The master’s program is a follow up to the bachelor’s program of the same name at IHM. The major is also intended for graduates of other universities where there was a focus on travel and tourism, public administration, management, and other major fields of study. During the first year of study, students from other universities will be required to pass compensatory exams in destination management and marketing. In addition to basic courses focused on economics, business economics, management and marketing, the program includes specialized subjects such as tourism management, marketing administration for regions and municipalities, sustainable regional tourism development, land-use and urban planning, and public administration.
Graduates may find careers in businesses related to destination management, in marketing organizations in the travel and tourism industry, state institutions, public administration, and other related fields. Graduates of the master’s program for Destination Management in the Travel and Tourism Industry will be professionals who are prepared for administration and coordination activities which are related to and responsible for the development of the travel and tourism industry. They will be able to communicate in two world languages, have keen cultural and social insights, be able to convey their opinions, and be well-oriented in economic markets. Furthermore, graduates will be flexible and able to anticipate and quickly react to changes in the market as well as other social changes and demands.
Major field of study: Prosperity, risk, Audit, and Crisis Management - NOT OFFERED in 2011/2012
The goal of the program is both general and specific training in management at the master’s level. Course content includes instruction in the discipline of management methods such as system management; strategic administration; risk and crisis management; financial administration; internal control and auditing; administration in the banking sector; appraising property and companies; civil, corporate, administrative, and criminal law; and account management. Several subjects are offered in English and in addition to the master’s degree, it is possible to obtain specialized certificates (crisis manager, risk manager, adjuster, assessor, safety and forensic engineer, etc.). Graduates may find work in both for-profit and non-profit spheres of public administration. Both full and part-time academic programs are offered.
Major field of study: Marketing Communication
Students become familiar with the operations of all media organs and individual types of technology. They are able to orient themselves within the field, from receiving media information and analyzing shared media, to public relations and the medialization of companies. They will understand not only the theoretical bases of the field, but also the practical, technical, and technological characteristics of individual media. They will gain knowledge from work with print media, including its electronic form. They will learn the processes of writing, editing, and publishing. Part of the course content is also a complex focus on the legal aspects of the field. Students gain a general basis for the science of management. They will become familiar with the theories of administration, personnel, psychology, account management, financial administration, and knowledge management. Graduates may find work in communication agencies, upper management in hotels and other service industry establishments, in leading positions in the field of culture, non-profit institutions, or in public administration.The school is in constant contact with leading experts from creative agencies, top management in various companies, Czech Television, and Czech Radio.
